About
Centerburg Joint Recreation District
Our Mission
The mission of the Centerburg Joint Recreation District
(CJRD) is to physical and financially assist in the enhancement
of recreational facilities and programs, and to also expand and
develop additional recreational programs within the boundaries of
the Centerburg School District.
History
The idea of establishing a recreation district in
the Centerburg, Ohio area originally sprang from meetings held between
representatives of the Village of Centerburg and Hilliar township
while developing a Comprehensive Plan for future development of
the township and the village during 2003. The idea became a reality
in June of 2007 when the CJRDwas formally established through a
collaborative effort of Centerburg Village, Hilliar township, Milford
township, Liberty township, and the Centerburg School District.
Bylaws
were established for the CJRD to be governed by a five person Board
of Trustees representing all of the above government subdivisions.
The only source of current funding the CJRD receives is $10,000
per year though local government funds as received from the State
Of Ohio and distributed through the Knox County Auditor.
During meetings in 2009 it was decided by the CJRD
Board of Trustees to send a survey to all the residents of the District
asking them to prioritize what activities they would like to see
the CJRD provide. After these surveys were returned, the data was
collected and two public meetings were held to advise the public
of the results and to collect further ideas as to what the public
would want provided. This information will be used to aid in future
decision making of programs to be provided and for possible future
facilities to be established.
During the past year the CJRD board of trustees
has utilized experienced recreational consultants to assist in future
planning for the District and to assist in providing recreation
programs for the public. Although the CJRD is still in its infancy,
it has already provided several recreational programs and has plans
to provide additional programs for the residents of the district.
In addition, a summer day camp for elementary aged children of the
district is currently being planned to be provided in the summer
of 2010.
